JUDU — moving a whole city, from one app

The mobile app for Vilnius public transport, built for the city — journey planning, ticketing and real-time transit in the residents’ pockets.

Public sector · Mobility · Mobile app

A public service used by an entire city

When the users are a city’s residents rather than a signed-up customer base, the bar is different: it has to work on the oldest phone, in poor coverage on the bus, and for someone who has never seen the app before and just needs to get home. We built the JUDU app around that reality — a clear path from “where do I want to go” to a valid ticket, with the map and real-time data doing the heavy lifting.

Why it was hard

Simple for the rider, serious underneath

A public-transport app has no onboarding funnel to hide behind — the first screen is the whole product. Behind that simplicity sits real-time transit data, ticket validation that has to be trusted by an inspector, and accessibility that has to work for every resident, not a target demographic.

1

Journey planning

Pick a travel mode and get from A to B without reading a manual.

2

Ticketing

Buy and hold a valid ticket that stands up to inspection on the vehicle.

3

Real-time transit

Live arrivals and routing so people wait less and trust the schedule.

4

Built for everyone

Fast on old phones and weak signal, legible for every resident.
